We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Controller to support the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions. This role will assist in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, improving financial processes, and supporting month-end and year-end close activities. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller, Finance leadership, and cross-functional teams to maintain accurate financial records and deliver timely financial insights that support business decision-making.
The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Accounting
Assist in managing the company's general accounting operations.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure accurate and timely completion of month-end and year-end closing activities.
Review journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting documentation.
Maintain compliance with GAAP, IFRS, or other applicable accounting standards.
Support consolidation of financial statements across multiple business units or entities.
Analyze financial results and explain variances.
Financial Controls & Compliance
Maintain and strengthen internal accounting controls.
Ensure compliance with company policies, financial regulations, and audit requirements.
Assist in preparing documentation for internal and external audits.
Coordinate audit requests and respond to auditor inquiries.
Support tax compliance activities and statutory reporting requirements.
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
Review work completed by accountants and senior accountants.
Assist in performance management, coaching, and employee development.
Promote continuous improvement and operational excellence within the accounting team.
Financial Operations
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and general ledger activities.
Ensure timely reconciliations of bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.
Monitor cash flow reporting and assist with treasury-related activities.
Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to automate accounting processes.
Improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Develop and document accounting procedures.
Assist with ERP implementations and financial system enhancements.
Business Partnership
Collaborate with Finance, Operations, HR, and executive leadership.
Provide financial analysis to support strategic business decisions.
Participate in special projects and company initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA required.
5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
2–4+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP (or IFRS where applicable).
Experience with financial statement preparation.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience using ERP systems (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Workday Financials, or similar).
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
Preferred:
Public accounting experience (Big Four or regional accounting firm) is preferred.
Experience supporting multinational or multi-entity organizations.
Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controls.
Experience with financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
